The son of Herbert and Edna Waddington, Melville Wells Waddington was over six feet tall. He attended the University of Toronto and after serving with the 12th Brigade Ammunition Column, Lieutenant Waddington transferred to the Royal Flying Corps on 16 April 1917. He was posted to 20 Squadron on 18 June 1917 and scored 12 victories that year as an observer. When the war ended, he returned to Canada where he sold insurance and real estate until his death in 1945.
