A grain broker from Saskachewan, Thompson served with the 18th Canadian Reserve Battalion before transferring to the Royal Flying Corps in September 1917. He was promoted to temporary Second Lieutenant (on probation) on 3 January 1918 and on 13 March 1918, he was posted to 62 Squadron as an observer. Thompson scored 9 victories flying Bristol Fighters and was twice recommended for the Distinguished Flying Cross. He and pilot Douglas Savage were shot down by anti-aircraft fire near Armentières on 21 April 1918. On 22 August 1918, Thompson was forced to land when pilot Ernest Morrow was badly wounded. In 1919, Thompson emigrated to the United States and was living in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1920. |
