A carpenter from Toronto, Lewis Hector Ray joined the Royal Flying Corps on 9 December 1916. He served with 19 Squadron from 29 March 1918 until 8 November 1918 and scored seven victories flying the Sopwith Dolphin. In his last aerial combat, he downed one balloon and three Fokker D.VIIs northeast of Cambrai on the morning of 27 September 1918.
