An American by birth, Ernest Graham Joy of Toronto was studying the law and a married man when he enlisted in July 1915. Before he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps, he served with the 74th O.S. Battalion and was promoted to Major. Posted to 57 Squadron, he scored 7 victories flying the D.H.4 in 1917. He joined 205 Squadron in 1918 and scored his last victory flying the D.H.9a. Post-war, he returned to Canada and practiced law. Joy served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.
