Flying the Sopwith Camel with 45 Squadron, Earl McNabb Hand, the son of Thomas A. and Hannah Jane Hand, was credited with five victories before he was wounded and captured on 1 June 1918. He was shot down by Frank Linke-Crawford. Hand later became a magistrate of the city of Toronto and was the first president of Toronto Flying Club.
