William Durrand enlisted on 11 March 1916, served with the 66th Battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, and was promoted to Sergeant. On 28 August 1916 he was commissioned temporary 2nd Lieutenant and transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. After pilot training, he was posted to 20 Squadron and was made Flight Commander with the rank of temporary Captain on 17 October 1917. He scored 8 victories that year flying two-seaters. |
