A machine fitter and mechanic, Franz Wognar enlisted in the Austro-Hungarian army in 1913. In 1914 he transferred to the air service and was assigned to Flik 2 on the Isonzo front in July 1915. A two-seater pilot, Wognar scored 5 victories flying the Hansa-Brandenburg C.I in 1917 and was wounded in action whilst scoring his 3rd victory on 20 May 1917. At the end of 1917 he was transferred to the Fliegerersatztruppe and served as a test pilot. |
